VIDEOS

A collection of video clips of the Road Metal boys at work. Most of the early footage was shot by Managing Director Murray Francis and much of the rest featured in various volumes of the Truck Files series of DVDs.

Volvo construction equipment operating at Road Metals cantebury quarries

Launch of Volvo L120H Wheel Loaders

Road Metals Ltd, have often been the first company in New Zealand to purchase the latest generation of Volvo L120 Wheel Loaders including the brand new L120H Series.

The L120H Wheel Loaders are fitted with Tier 4 Final engines and Volvo’s Optishift system to increase fuel savings and productivity. TransDiesel and Road Metals held a launch event in Christchurch, which was attended by some of their operators who have been operating L120 machines for many years.

Carting Gravel

These trucks were helping to build part of SH8 in the Tekapo area.

Road Metal in Deep Cove, Fiordland

Shot in 1999 when Road Metal was involved with screening & crushing the aggregate for the second Tail Race Tunnel for the Manapouri power scheme.

There is no road to West Arm and the trucks are barged from Manapouri across the lake to West Arm, from where they travel over the Wilmot Pass road (reputedly New Zealand’s most expensive road at the time) and drop down to Deep Cove where they set up their screening & crushing operation.

Road Metal have undertaken numerous trips into this region – including the Milford Sound area and have a long – and ever continuing – history with this remote part of the country.

Road Metal – Brand Loyalty

Taken from the Truck Files DVD collection – this movie highlights the Mack and Volvo gear that Road Metal has focused on during much of its recent history.

Modern footage, as well as some cool old stuff filmed by Murray Francis, this is an interesting look as one of the South Island’s most respected companies.

Road Metal – 50 years anniversary

This collection of clips was shot by Murray Francis – and much of it was from the sixties and seventies when Road Metal were involved with many of the ‘think big’ projects of the era.

This movie was made for the 50th anniversary of the business and many of the staff that appear in it as young men in their twenties or teens – are still with the company.

If Murray didn’t love his trucks so much – he could have had a career in the movie industry! Some of this footage is priceless…

Over the Lindis Pass to Haast

Road Metal in convoy carting screening and crushing plants from the East Coast to the West Coast of the South Island via the Lindis and Haast Passes.

No commentary – just the trucks at work. This clip can be viewed on Truck Files V – Hard Yards with a commentary.
